WHEN GOD SHAKES YOUR NEST "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) TEXT Isaiah the 8th century prophet gave words of hope to the captive people of the southern kingdom. At that time, the country was divided between Israel in the north and Judah in the south.Under King David the entire area was called Israel. He urged the people to wait on the Lord.Waiting on the Lord is like being safe in a nest, regardless of the storms around you.You can trust God.However, you must remain devoted in your worship during this period of nesting. If you don't wait on the Lord,You will experience what a baby bird experiences when it falls from the nest without the mother being there to help.It can be fatal. The nations that did not believe in God during Isaiah's time were destroyed, even though they seemed invincible. When you wait on the Lord ,he will give mature Christians the strength to mount up wings like an eagle. EAGLE After researching the text, I have decided that my job was to convince you that you can soar like an eagle .The eagle is the only bird that checks out the wind and current and soars like a kite. Eagles ride columns of rising air called thermals and can average speeds of 30 mph (50 kilometers). Effortlessly, an eagle can circle in a strong thermal to a high altitude, and then glide along .Other birds have to flap their wings to fly. . .So, I am asking you to emulate the eagle and not become your average bird, Christian, employee, or what ever your calling in life is. CONFORT IN THE NEST The second thing I would like to discuss is the limitations of the nest. The eagle's nest is a safe place for the eaglets. They are supplied with food shelter and safety from other predators. The location of the nest also protects them from the storms of life. This is a great environment for young eagles until they learn to fly .However, as they grow older they must learn to fly so they can provide for themselves .Thus, the nest provides them with a false sense of security, because they don't have the skills to soar like a great eagle. ITS TIME TO FLY... GOD MUST DEVELOP YOUR WINGS! When it is time to fly, the young eaglet gets the shock of a life time. The mother will shake it out of the nest. The young eaglet is terrified; it seems to be falling to a sure death as it tries to fly unsuccessfully. Just before it smashes against the rocks, the mother swoops under it and gives it a ride .This procedure is repeated about a dozen times before the young adult eagle learns to fly. Another interesting thing about eagles... is that they don't let the storms of life bother them very much. They are very good at forecasting the weather. They simply take notes of the weather variables and fly above the storm. When the storm is over, they go back to their normal routine of eating poisoness snakes , rodents and fishing. MODERN DAY EAGLES Michael Jordan was an eagle of a basket ball player. With seven seconds remaining in the games, he would consistently soar to the basket to win the game. Ali the heavyweight champion was as fast in the ring as an eagle. David the little shepherd boy rain out to meet the giant Goliath like an eagle seizing it's prey. Paul could interpret scripture concerning Jesus Christ with the spiritual vision of an eagle. He is still teaching us today. "What I’m saying to you this morning, my friends, even if it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go on out and sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures; sweep streets like Handel and Beethoven composed music; sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry; sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well, "Martin L .King, Jr. GOD WILL SHAKE YOUR NEST When you feel like you are going through a storm in life as a young Christian, God is just shaking you out of the nest.Remember, you prayed and asked God for success! This is the next step. It is very important for you to become a stronger Christian. It is important for you to learn to fly and soar like an eagle. FLY OVER STORMS We are so use to God guiding us through the storms of life. As soon as we get in trouble or see a storm cloud on the horizon , we begin praying to God to take us by the hand and lead us through the storm ,God does this for a while, until it is time for you to fly and soar like an eagle. When God shakes us out of the nest, we feel like God has deserted us .We try to buy a new house and one mortgage company turns us down. Just, go to seven more until you get a yes .You need a new car and one dealership said your credit was bad. Go to five more companies until someone sales you a new car. Your church does not have enough members .Why don't you take the church to the people; that is what Jesus did. He did his trial sermon on the side of the mountain .Have church in the park one Sunday .Just soar like an eagle over that concern. EAGLE OR AVERAGE BIRD God made many varieties of birds ,but there are only a few eagles in the world to day compared to other birds. You are blessed, because you can decide to become an average bird or a mighty eagle. If you mount up wings like an eagle ,you shall run and not be weary; you shall walk and not faint. That is because you want have to ...waste your energy... flying in and out of storms ...like your average bird. God has provided a current that goes upward toward heaven ; just stretch your wings and let the current take you over all your troubles and concerns. THANKS GOD FOR SHAKING YOUR NEST! NOW SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE! CONCLUSION The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them. God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure, and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm. We can soar like an eagle. . They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. One of these old days it is going to be all over for me on this earth.God has promise... that if I keep working in his Kingdom, he will give me two pairs of wings,so Ican fly away to glory.Up in glory,I have a long white robe.Up in glory,I have a new pair of shoes. When I get to heaven,I want my new pair of wings.I am working each and every day for my wings. I want to soar to heaven like the great eagle. Historical Information KJV Encyclopædia Britannica -- Eagle Information Esco Yancey,Jr.
